The Admission and Assessment service will provide a 12 week programme of care for female patients who require specific intervention due to a mental health breakdown within the community or other services and require a higher level of short term relational care within a secure environment.
Patients admitted into this area will also require the appropriate environmental and procedural security that is required for patients who are in crisis. The ward area may be utilised for women who have high levels of self harming behavior and require additional resources without requiring additional 1:1 staffing which patients often find intrusive and intimidating.
The service has an enhanced care area away from the ward to afford a greater degree of privacy for women in crisis. This area offers women a bedroom, lounge and en-suite facility with doors leading to an outside garden area.
The ward has vision panels for all the bedrooms and policies and procedures reflect the nature of the ward.
There will be limitations on the use of section 17 leave given that this area is for intensive care and assessment. Care plans will reflect the nature of the assessment process and treatment interventions.
