Raphael pledge support to combat mental health stigma and discrimination
Stigma and discrimination still has a huge impact on the lives of people with mental health problems and The Farndon Unit has decided to pledge its support to combat this by supporting the Time to Change campaign.
It has been shown that it is through social contact, when people with and without experience of mental distress come together, that people can get to know one another and the stigma around mental health problems get broken down.
As part of the campaign, The Farndon Unit in Newark have organised a number of events during Get Moving Week (October 3rd—11th) which will bring people together.
• Art & Craft Exhibition - Arts and craft items produced by patients and a display
• by the Conservation Group
• Monday 5th October 2009: 11.00am – 12.00pm Newark Evangelical Church
• Conservation Group Exhibition - Exhibition of work carried out over the past 2 years
• by the group including posters and photographs
• Wednesday 7th October 2009: 2.00pm – 3.30pm Newark Castle
• Time to Change Market Stall – Market stall with tombola and in partnership with Newark Mind.
• Friday 9th October 2009: 10.30am – 12pm Newark Market Square
During the run up to the week, the unit will run a community session with patients to help raise awareness of the need to combat stigma.
