The Farndon Unit leads the way with newest recruit
It is very rare for mental health service providers to employ general nurses and Lisa’s appointment is testament to Raphael Healthcare’s commitment to constantly improving its patient care.
Lisa, who comes from Lincoln will be responsible for all patients’ physical healthcare needs and will be involved in both the assessment and care planning of these needs, both strengthening and complimenting the company’s holistic approach to patient care; recognising the person as a whole and accepting their individual psychological, physical, social and mental health needs This appointment will strengthen the current service at The Farndon Unit, having a clear healthcare pathway established for all the patients which encompasses both physical and mental health needs. Using a team approach, all aspects of a patient’s health will be addressed, collaboratively in working with the MDT, GP and patient, Recognising that patients using mental health services often have higher levels of asthma, cardiovascular disease and obesity, Lisa’s appointment at The Farndon Unit will both strengthen our existing service and establish greater health educational support; promoting a healthier lifestyles for our patients and offering them key skills to use when they return to the community
With previous roles, including, a Community Nurse in a female prison where she was responsible for the Blood Borne Virus service, offering counselling and vaccinations and a Staff Nurse on ENT/Maxillofacial, Lisa brings a wealth of experience to the team which will help deliver benefits such as: breaking down discrimination of people with mental health needs who need to access primary care services providing patients with an education in lifestyle and general health and enabling efficient access to GP services.
One of Lisa’s key objectives is to implement a variety of support for the MDT and patients in educational support on health in the future, such as chronic diseases management, asthma, diabetes and CVD, health promotion/education, triage and wound management, well women advice for all the patients to include screening, contraception and Blood Borne Virus testing. This unique service will enhance the mental health and well being of all patients at The Farndon Unit.
On her new appointment, Lisa said; “I am very excited about this new role. To be the first general nurse appointed is a great opportunity and I look forward to getting started and making sure the vision of a well woman clinic becomes reality.”
